General characteristics of the mine

The mine Lubelski Węgiel „Bogdanka” S.A. perform its mining operations within the mining area with surface of 57 km2.
In this area, from among 18 hard coal deposits classified as balance resources and situated under the overlay with the thickness of 650 m up to 730 m, eight (8) deposits with industrial resources have been indicated for exploitation. At the moment, the exploitation is carried out in the deposits 382 and 385/2; under the mining licence valid by 2015

The mining area is subdivided into three exploitation sectors, incorporating the following objects:



  • Bogdanka sector:
    • main pit shafts (pit shaft 1.2 – downcast shaft, material and transportation pit shaft with the diameter of 6,0 m and depth of  995 m as well as pit shaft 1.3 upcast shaft, output shaft with the diameter of 7,5 m and depth of  1 030 m),
    • the assembly incorporating two main fans at the pit shaft 1.3,
    • mechanical coal processing plant,
    • dead rock dump,
    • administrative and office buildings as well as social buildings,
  • Nadrybie sector:
    • peripheral pit shafts (pit shaft 1.4 upcast shaft, material and transportation pit shaft with the diameter of 7,5 m and depth of  996 m, as well as pit shaft 1.5 downcast shaft with the diameter of 7,5 m and depth of  990 m),
    • the assembly incorporating two main fans at the pit shaft 1.4.
  • Stefanów sector, created after suspended construction of mine K-2 in Stefanów.
    At the moment the works are carried out in that area in the order to dewater the pit shafts No 2.1 and 2.2 and to make them accessible as well as to complete their construction and commissioning. The construction of aforesaid pit shafts has been suspended in 1989. Their diameters are equal to 7,5 m each and the depths to 993 m and 1020 m correspondingly. After the suspension of their construction the both pit shafts were flooded with water at natural level up 2005.
